Schedule an Appointment

This fall, you can make appointments through our online scheduling system. If you have disabilities or special circumstances, you may schedule an appointment by phone, or in person at the Writing Center up to two weeks in advance.

You may have up to one hour of sessions per week: two half-hour sessions, or one hour-long session. (If you are in Freshman Inquiry or are referred by the Disability Resource Center, you may be eligible for more than one hour each week. Please speak with us in person for more details.)

If you cannot get an appointment because the schedule is full, you have two options:

  1. Periodically check the online scheduling system, call, or come by to see if we have any cancellations, or
  1. Come by and wait on the hour or half-hour; if someone is more than five minutes late for their appointment, we’ll give it to the first person waiting.

If you can’t make your appointment or need to reschedule, it’s important that you let us know as soon as possible so another writer can take your spot. You can cancel or reschedule appointments through our online scheduling system, by phone, or in person.

Important: If you don’t cancel an appointment ahead of time, you will be listed as a “no-show.” Three no-shows in one term will result in your losing appointment-setting privileges for the rest of the current term.

The number of writers seeking help almost always exceeds the number of available appointments. Please be courteous and let someone else take your appointment if you’re not going to use it.

When You Come In

Please refer to our Tips for a Successful Session.

If you arrive early for your appointment or wish to wait for a cancellation or no-show, we have two waiting areas. Feel free to wait on the sofa by the front desk or the library/study room. Tables in the consulting area are reserved for sessions. Your consultant will notify when he/she is ready to begin your session.

Please bring two hard copies of the paper/project you are working on to your appointment-one for you and one for your consultant. If you prefer to work on your laptop, you still need to bring a hard copy for your consultant.

Please note: We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone is disruptive or disrespectful to our staff or other writers.

ADA Accommodations: If you have a disability that requires accommodation, please let us know how we can help to ensure that you have a successful writing consultation
